Josh Guesman from NASN’s Corner of the Galaxy joins Ryan to preview the Los Angeles Galaxy’s 2014 Major League Soccer season. This is the 10th episode in our MLS 2014 Preview Podcast Series. We’ll be publishing a new show focusing on a different MLS team every day until kick off.

TSS 171: “It’s Pretty Grainy, I’d Suggest Getting Cable…”

Posted on December 4th, by Daryl in Soccer Podcasts. No Comments

On our NASN debut, TSS gives MLS Cup the Game of the Week treatment. We ask how Major League Soccer’s showpiece event measured up as 90 minutes of entertainment and get into why Houston’s possession game didn’t work out. David Beckham’s hug stamina is applauded, Omar Gonzalez’s defensive display makes Daryl weak at the knees and Peyton makes a plausible(ish) defense of Christian Wilhlemsson’s contribution.

We also ponder the future of Landon Donovan (he’ll be back, right?) and touch on the MX Final, featuring Edgar Castillo and Joe Corona, asking: Should more American soccer be watching more Mexican Primera? We close the show with a round of Tiki-Taka Trivia, in which we learn one German, one Russian and one Slovenian soccer phrase.

Posted on November 25th, by Daryl in Soccer Podcasts. No Comments

David Beckham’s hair or Bobby Boswell’s beard? Who would win in a fight between Cosmo the extraterrestrial frog and Dynamo Diesel the fox? Would you rather hang out with The Dude or The Ryan Express? This is how we preview MLS Cup on the Total Soccer Show.

We review the MLS Conference Finals, paying particular attention to DC United’s exit at the hands of Houston Dynamo, but finding plenty of time to explain to Seattle fans why they definitely was a penalty kick. Sorry guys.

We also play a special Thanksgiving-themed round of the Wikipedia Game.

Taylor is off to Turkey, Albert is still somewhere in Maine, and Josh does not know how to operate a calendar. So Daryl is joined in studio by Peyton, who makes makes his debut as co-host to discuss Liverpool’s disappointing draw with Sunderland–and what we think went wrong for Liverpool in the second half.

Also on the agenda: Manchester United’s defensive problems (or potential defensive problems), Wolves Champions League aspirations (table don’t lie), the madness that is Joey Barton, potential strikes in Italy and Spain, Cesc Fabregas’ move to Barcelona, Robbie Keane to LA Galaxy and Freddy Adu to Chivas USA. Did we say Chivas USA? We meant Philadelphia Union. Last on the show but first in our hearts, we recap Americans in Europe and who did what this weekend.

We review a dramatic final day in the Premier League, where five teams battled to avoid relegation and we swiveled our heads to watch as many TVs as possible. It was everything the final day of a soccer season should be, at least at the bottom end of the table.

We also touch on the LA Galaxy’s 1-1 draw with NY Red Bulls, and the starring role played by a couple of Designated Players, Thierry Henry and David Beckham.

And finally we finish up with a little two man Wikipedia Game, which pitted Taylor against myself with Daryl hosting.

Davies Rescues DC, La Barra Brava Get Loud // Apr 10 2011

Posted on April 11th, by TSS in Soccer Podcasts. 1 Comment

Half of the Total Soccer Show was at RFK Stadium Saturday night to see DC United draw 1-1 with LA Galaxy, thanks to a 90th minute spot kick both won and scored by Charlie Davies.

We have post-game audio from the DC United locker room, where Taylor spoke to Davies about the penalty kick (dive or no dive?) the goal celebration (it was “Weekend at Bernie’s”) and whether Davies should start for DC (Davies says yes, Albert disagrees). Taylor also asked Josh Wolff about getting scissor-tackled by David Beckham and Santino Quaranta about squaring up to the world’s most famous footballer.

While Taylor was hob-nobbing with players, Daryl was down in the lower bowl enjoying temporary membership of La Barra Brava, DC’s noisiest supporter group. He got interviews with a couple of Barra members, audio from the game and from the legendary … Read More »
